icwhs and irisiris95 Pretty much the same for me too, lived in Sweden for 30 years. Now live in Spain for 8 months of the year. Sweden is just too bloody dark and cold for too bloody long. The sun sort of comes half up at 9am and it gets dark again by 2pm. Spain is cheap, warm and sunny....Motorbike weather all year round.

I paid for my O1 visa here in USA, $5000 down the drain but worth the drama as I get three years to play with and can renew.
If you invest in Brazil (like say buying property there) you will get a green card there.

How have those of you managed to grab residence abroad in non EU nations?
If anyone can assist with a way into Canada, I'd appreciate it.
I love my England, I just feel I need a change.

Lived in Sweden for 25 yrs, now living in Los Angeles. Pretty close as final destination I'd say. Big fan of Brazil too though the cities are on/off dodgy there.
Weather would be the reason.

Current plan is North Eastern Thailand (surprise, sur-fucking-prize) as I've all but been adopted by a village there (the last idiot got lost going down the shop and no other contender meets their tight requirements), but I'm watching how Burma, Laos & Cambodia move over the next 6 years.
I like the pre-westernized south-east Asian lifestyle, but don't want to be too far from civilisation.

Neil, I meant living on Barra, Lewis or in Iceland is a pipe dream for ME. I wasn't commenting on your plans. If I was, I would have said "Urgh! You can poke your Tuscany up your arse"

Possibly Nurse, but I very much doubt I'll end up in the UK personally There are so many better places in my opinion, and once the kids are gone (and mine have dual citizenship and many relatives in the US for example), then there's not much keeping me here.
On the one hand something warmer, relaxed and sybaritic, on the other something remote, colder and more dramatic. I genuinely don't know. We seem here to live in a middling rainy grey with none of the advantages of either, and I don't just mean the weather.
